Genoa club in Serie A officially announced the appointment of Daniele De Rossi as the new head coach on Thursday, replacing Patrick Vieira who was fired after a series of poor results at the beginning of the season. The decision was made after Vieira failed to lead Genoa to victory in the first nine matches of the season. With three draws and six losses, Il Grifone found themselves at the bottom of the Serie A standings. Before De Rossi’s arrival, former Genoa captain Domenico Criscito temporarily led the team and successfully secured their first win of the season against Sassuolo with a score of 2-1. This victory lifted Genoa to 18th place with six points, level with Pisa on the safety line. De Rossi, a 42-year-old, is a legend from AS Roma where he spent almost two decades as a player. He began his coaching career at Roma in January 2024, replacing Jose Mourinho, and managed to lead the team to a sixth-place finish in Serie A while reaching the Europa League semi-finals. However, De Rossi also experienced a bitter fate when he was sacked in September last year after failing to win at the start of the new season. Interestingly, his last game with Roma ended in a 1-1 draw against Genoa. Genoa will face Fiorentina in their next match at home. Interestingly, the visiting team also recently fired Stefano Pioli on Tuesday (4/11) after a poor start to the season left La Viola at the bottom of the table.
